Update Post Competiton

So I know some of you are probably wondering why I haven't blogged in awhile and what happened with the competition. WELL.. I got really sick, came down with the flu, and was not able to compete :( I know I was so upset over the whole thing because I worked so hard to get everything ready. But there is always next year and other competitions. I did learn some pretty important aspects of about getting ready for a competition.. like how much work goes into it and how important it is for you to have a great display table. I give my hat off to those decorators who constantly compete throughout the year. So in learning all of this I will be attending the PA Cake Show in April and then prepare to compete in the White Rose Cake Show in November :) So that is what happened with the competition and now on to some cakes!

Black Skull Diaper Bag- Shirley Temple cake flavor with Vanilla Buttercream. My client brought me a picutre of a diaper bag that she bought for her upcoming baby. She wanted me to make the cake look like the diaper bag so that is what I did.

Cowboy-Bed Cake- Since due to copyright laws we can't replicate certain characters so I had a client who wanted a Toy Story 3 cake. So in order to appease her I did a cowboy theme cake.
Church Hat Cake- One of the elders in my church Cornerstone Baptist Church in York, PA birthday was coming up and her daughter wanted something special. She told me that she loves her church hats that she wears to church so my assistant and I made this beautiful hat cake. She absolutely loved it!
Family Themed Birthday Cake- This cake was for a woman who hobby was her family. So I hand cut out an outline of a family and then added the words love, home and happiness. Everything is made out of fondant.

50s Theme Birthday Cake- This cake is for a woman who turned 70 and she loved the 50s. So I used 50s colors and rock n roll as the theme of the cake. So there are records, a guitar, and old fashion tv and music notes on the cake.

I will be making a serious effort to blog more in fact I will be posting again tomorrow night  in order to get caught up on posting pictures and other updates that have been going on at the shop.

Until then...
Peace & Blessings

Getting Ready....for Cake Compeitition!!

Hi All!
I have been busy preparing for this cake competition that I will be participating in this Sunday (February 6th) in Lancaster at the Eden Hotel. There is so much that needs to be done... making tons of sugar flowers, picking cake flavors, figuring what I am making for brides to taste, and table decor. In addition I have my regular cakes and then some orders for the Superbowl. So this is a super busy week for me:) Now if only the snow and bad weather would go away so people can come into my shop again and I will be a happy camper! I have also confirmed that on February 26th at my shop will be the PRIMP N POLISH event in conjunction with Primp Agency of York, PA. There will be talented artists doing nails, lashes and make-up as well yummy desserts provided by and an open cake tasting for brides to be. I think this will be a very fun event and a great weekend since our first Poetry Cafe will be that Friday (the 25th). So since I will be busy I will be doing 2 more posts this week; one on Saturday for the weekend cake orders and one on Sunday night about the competition. So you will be hearing more from me this week.
Until then,
Peace & Blessings

Cakes & Cupcakes Part 2

Hello Again,
So I am trying to be more consistent with my posting like I mentioned before so here I am posting again. So some pictures will be newer ones, while others will be older ones. I think the shop has hit the winter slump that happens to small businesses because orders are coming but not like they were the snow hit. Darn snow! But I can say that the snow has allowed me to seriously think about the goals for my business for this year and changes I would like to do to the shop. I have also been working on some up coming events that I would like to have in the next couple of months. One of them is a Valentine Cupcake Party for kids on February 12th. So instead of the Mommy & Me classes which only allow for 4 kids at one time.. this party will be for a much bigger group where kids can really interact with one another also they will be doing some crafting besides decorating cupcakes. We are also having out first Poetry Cafe on the 25th of February featuring local poets and of course there will be plenty of yummy cupcakes and gourmet coffee for everyone.

I have also finally come up with a design for the cake competition I will be in next month. I am soo excited about this because the cake decorator who wins will be featured in Susquehanna Style Magazine and that can do big things for a small business like me! So I will be working on some sugar flowers next week and will be taking pictures to chart my progress. I will also be posting pictures on here and Facebook of some of my Valentine's specials so if any of you are interested in ordering you will be able to see some of the goodies.

Now on tooo the cakes!

Monkey Zebra Theme Cake- Neapolitan cake flavor and decorated with 8 fondant monkeys all at different ages and doing different things. By far one of the cutest cakes we have done.

Eagles Birthday Cake- Everything is edible with the exception of the Eagles symbol. Footballer is made from fondant.

Sweet 16 Topsy-Turvy cake- Vanilla cake with Vanilla Buttercream. The client brought in a picture and wanted me to replicate it which I did with some minor color changes.
Purple Zebra Print Sweet 16 Cake- Chocolate cake with Vanilla Buttercream. Another client who brought in the picture of what she was looking for. Doing the spirals on top was a bit of a challenge because the balls didn't want to stay where I put them but I told them who was boss! LOL.
Thomas the Tank Sheet  Cake- Chocolate & Vanilla cake with Whipped Icing. Thomas is made from fondant along with the other decorations. I don't really do cake covered in whipped icing or buttercream but when a client asks for it I deliver.

Chocolate Hazlenut Praline Cupcakes- another new cupcake flavor that I just came up with last week. Chocolate cake with a hazelnut praline sauce baked into the cake. Topped with Chocolate buttercream and more sauce on top. I made these beauties for a donation that ended up at a baby shower.
21st Birthday Cap Cake- So this is another attempt at carving 3-D cakes and I am getting so much better. Lemon cake with Kit Kat Chocolate Buttercream filling. Black geeky glasses and an IPOD nano complete the cake. Design was based on what my client said her son liked.

Air Jordan Retro Sneaker- 3rd attempt at cake carving. This one was way more difficult than the other two I have done. Vanilla cake with vanilla buttercream.

Well that's it for now..but more pictures are coming along with more Valentine's information and pictures.

Until then..
Peace & Blessings

Cakes & Cupcakes Part 1

Good Evening All!
So this post will be short because I am very tired about painting my living room and getting caught up on washing clothes, cooking dinner and some other things today since the shop is closed on Mondays.  So I am going to be posting some up to date pictures first and then go back over the next week or so. I am also trying to get together website changes and planning events for the shop. So as you can see my plate is very full! So before I fall asleep...on to the cakes!
Ladybugs & Daisies Birthday Cake- Chocolate cake with Oreo Buttercream filling. Fondant ladybugs, daisies and royal icing butterflies. Order for a little girl turning 5 who loves her ladybug pillow pet and the color purple.
Cinnamon Roll Cupcakes- Every week I try to bake up at least 2 gourmet flavors for the shop. Well this one going to be a flavor this week. I made these for a friend's son birthday party. Cinnamon roll flavored cake with maple buttercream and topped with crushed pecans and cinnamon sugar.

Lime green, black and white Baby Shower cake- Berry Overload cake done in buttercream basketweave technique. All of the baby items are made from fondant.
This cake and the next one were made for a client in Baltimore, MD that drove down to pick them up. His wife was having a baby shower and it was her birthday. He said that she loves Gucci so I made her a Gucci purse and a Gucci diaper bag. I took some liberties with the design but I love the way they both came out. and since I don't get that many 3-D cake orders I jump at the chance to do them. Cake is Red Velvet with Cream Cheese Buttercream. All pieces are made from fondant.

Gucci Diaper Bag Cake- Chocolate cake with Oreo Buttercream. White and pink fondant details.
Hot Wheels Sheet Cake- Half vanilla with oreo buttercream and half strawberry with vanilla buttercream.

S'mores Cupcakes- Chocolate cake with Vanilla Buttercream. Cake has graham cracker bits baked at the bottom. More graham cracker bits, chocolate chunk, and mini marshmallows.

Neapolitan Cupcakes- Half chocolate and half vanilla cake with strawberry buttercream and pink sprinkles.

Pink & White Flower Cake- So I made this cake for a friend of min and my hubby's co-worker. She is very sweet and watches Jayden from time to time so I thought it would be nice to make her a cake for her birthday. Chocolate cake with vanilla buttercream. Flower is all marshmallow fondant.

So that is it for now.. but I promise I will be posting again probably tomorrow about more cakes and some of my announcements. But until then...
Peace & Blessings.

It's Been A Long Time..

Hello Everyone!
I know its been a long time since I blogged but I have been soooooo busy between the shop and moving into a house and now dealing with a 1 year old! So the time had flown by. So I have finally gotten mostly everything settled in the shop. I just have to put together the bookcase and fill it with the books and find a bistro table. For some reason I can't find one any where. But other than that things are going along I will be glad when spring comes around so I can really advertise the way I want to. I moved into a 4 bedroom house so I am trying to fill it with the stuff, paint and organize. Boy is it taking forever! Now I know why people are still living out of boxes months later when they move into a house. Then to top it off my little bundle of craziness Jayden turned 1 in November and has been running (literally) around the house getting into everything. So as you can see I have had a lot of my plate and blogging got pushed to the wayside. I will make an effort to blog on constant schedule. So if any of you are interested after taking a lot at all of the cakes and cupcakes I have done I am proudly located at: 1413 North George Street York,PA 17404.

So now on to the cakes and cupcakes! I have added a lot of new flavors to my cakes and cupcakes which can be found on my website Kima's Konfections. So I am going work my way backwards starting from today and then go backwards to catch all of the cakes and cupcakes that I missed.

Sunflower Cake- Peanut Butter Fudge flavored cake torted with layers of chocolate ganache and peanut butter buttercream

My first I Can Decorate Too! class was December 18th. I had 2 students who were very eager to learn and they had lots of fun. This class is like a crash course in cake decorating so what you would learn in the first 2 Wilton decorating classes you learn in one night. I am also available for questions for my students any time. The class is $50 ($55 for gourmet cake) and you just bring yourself to the class. I provide everything including the cake and buttercream.

Cappuccino-Tiramisu Cupcakes- Cappuccino-tiramisu flavored cake with Vanilla Buttercream and drizzled with chocolate sauce.
Passion fruit Cupcakes- Passion fruit flavored cupcakes with a tropical punch buttercream and topped with a pineapple sauce.

Pink Wedding Dress Cookie- sugar cookie decorated with white fondant and pink sanding sugar and edible pearls.
Blue Wedding Dress- wedding dress shaped sugar cookie with blue fondant and light pink sanding sugar and metallic blue edible pearls.

Pink & Pearls Wedding Dress- pink wedding dress sugar cookie decorated in pink fondant and edible luster dust and edible pearls.

So the next post will have more pictures from previous made cakes along with some pictures of my Mommy & Me Cupcake Decorating Class. Also we are in the process of putting together some birthday party packages and a Poet Cafe once a month at the shop so lots more information coming soon!

Peace & Blessings

Changes, Changes & More Changes!

So I know its been over two months since I last blogged but I got caught up in baking cakes and other things that time just flew by! Two of the most important changes has been moving into a house and moving my business into a shop! Yes I know, Kima's Konfections now has an actually store front in York, PA! I am so amazed and proud at the same time. So now that both moves are behind me I can start blogging again.. oh I had a major milestone in my life yesterday.. my adorable son Jayden turned 1! He is no longer a baby any more but a toddler who walks and has his own attitude to boot. So you guys will be hearing more from me from now on. I have so much going on with the shop that I will just share a little bit with you now and as I transform the shop into my dream shop I will keep you updated.

First I had revamped my pricing structure and product list. I did this for a few reasons but mainly because I thought it would be simpler to have one price for cakes for my clients. I also got rid of some products that weren't selling. I also just completed (yesterday) the most updated cake flavor list. It will be posted on my site in the next couple of weeks and is available in the shop now. Other changes include our Mommy & Me cupcake decorating class for parents and their children. Kids are allowed to come into the shop and decorated cupcakes with their parents. Its great fun for the kids and their parents. Another class that will be making its debut in December is my I Can Decorate too! Class for teenagers and young adults. More information on that class will be coming soon.
