Lots of Updates!

Once again I have fallen behind on my blogging :( It seems when I start to get into the groove I get busy and then I forget to blog. The main reason for my lag in blogging a little guy name Jayden. He has finally learned how to roll over so now I have to watch him whenever I place him down because he will just roll. I used to be able to place him on the couch do a couple of things while checking on him, now I can't do that anymore or the little man will end up on the floor. Bad for mommy and baby. He is also trying to slide around but mostly in a circle. He went from being non-mobile to the beginning stages of crawling like over night! He is also more vocal now, especially in his dislikes (i.e. when Mommy leaves the room)so I have been trying to find ways to keep him entertained while trying to clean the house, conducting business and baking cakes. But the big news is that he is finally sleeping on his own! Yah! Yah! And he is sleeping mostly through the night too! So it won't be long before he is sleeping all the way through the night.

On to the cakes:) So I have lots of pictures today since I haven't been blogging. I will post them below. So I finally have the picture of the shamrock 1st birthday cake. And I have a picture of the cute little munchkin it was for. She really loved her cake. I also have the picture of the little cake I did for my hubby's friend. Also in March I have pictures of the dessert buffet I did for my friend's bridal shower. Other pictures include cupcakes for my site. I am constantly making updates and revisions to my website as my business changes and I come up with better ideas to promote my business and to bring in more clients. So I have decided to start a new gourmet cake line for the more adventurous customer who likes exciting flavors combinations. In conjunction with the new line I am also running a cake giveaway for a 6" cake for the person who comes up with the most unique cake flavor combination. The giveaway ends on the 24th and the winner will be announced on the 25th. I am getting more and more local calls which is great and I think the bridal show that I am participating in this Sunday will bring in more customers. I have so much in my head that I will be blogging over the next couple of days to get it all out. So tomorrow I will be discussing my participating in the bridal show and what I plan on doing since this will be my first one. Today is all about my past cakes and cupcakes orders. I recently did a cupcake tree for a 7 year old birthday. The theme was hearts with lots of bright colors. So I made the cupcake tower, cupcakes and cupcake topper in the theme the client requested. The other big cake I got to do was for my sister in law. She turned 16 and we (hubby and I ) decided to surprise her with a big cake. I liked doing this because I had free range to do what I wanted to do so I made it square and round with zebra print and circles on it. She absolutely loved it and was soo surprised! I also made Oreo Truffles for one of my hubby's co-workers. Below are the pictures of the cakes/cupcakes. Enjoy!

So Many Cakes, So Little Time....

Like the last post, it has been a while since I posted something. I have been ridiculously busy with Jayden (getting bigger and more active every week) and Valentine's Day. Now that V-day is over, I can relax a little bit. My website is finally up and running! I am so excited because I am starting to get local business from it. Also I secured my first wedding this week. I had a cake tasting for a very cute, modern couple. They want a topsy turvy cake with each layer having a different design. I can't wait to do this cake! Back to Valentine's Day, which was crazy non-stop baking for a week and a half. I have also learned that trying to ship overnight on Fridays and Saturdays just does not work it is way to expensive. I ended up making 4 cakes, lots of cupcakes in a variety of flavors, chocolate covered brownies/pretzels, cake pops. By the time Monday rolled around after Valentine's Day I was sooo tired. I then had to make a birthday cake for a three year, Tinkerbell themed. Its so cute how children have their favorite cartoon characters. And then earlier today I delivered a Hollywood themed Engagement cake. I loved doing the Hollywood cake because the client who ordered the cake gave me free reign to do whatever I wanted, which I loved. I ended making one tier purple and the other blue. I also had stars and some film reels on he side of the cake. Next week, I have an order for a Princess Tiana cake in buttercream so I will be definitely posting that picture. All pictures will below from my latest orders.

York is having a bridal show that I can afford to be a vendor at! I am so excited and will be talking about it with my hubby tomorrow to come up with a plan of action for my table. I want to be able to have samples and some dummy cakes to take along as well as a miniature candy buffet scape but I don't know if I can get all of that on the table. I also have to think about linens to decorate the cake and promotional items. It is so much but I am so excited to be able to attend a bridal show, it was on my business to do list for this year. I am still on the hunt for a closer commercial kitchen so I don't have to drive all the way to Lancaster. I also obtained my first candy buffet order this week as well. My client is giving a birthday party for her daughter and the theme is Abby Cadabby, now I was like who is that? Then I found out she is one of the newest Sesame Street characters. So I will be making a cake and doing a candy buffet in Abby Cadabby colors. I have also decided to give my brother's girlfriend a baby shower, they are having a boy. So the color scheme for that is going to be blue and brown so I will also be taking pictures to post from that event. I have to get on the ball with that this up coming week to get the invites out. I also have a few orders for March and a very special dessert buffet. God has been really good to me in that my business has really taken off I am hoping by July I will have established myself in York to be able to get consistent local business.

Are Bridal Show Really Worth It??

So today I decided that in order to generate more business, maybe I should go to some bridal shows to show some display cakes and samples. So I decided to start internet searching for local bridal shows in the area which were plenty. The problem was that for a vendor, it can be very expensive to go to one. Like a few I saw where $500 just for a table and chairs. WTF?! I very quickly realized that I won't be able to do as many as I would like, rather I might be able to attend one or two this year because finances. :( I have also decided to send my business card and a photo montage of my work to some bridal boutiques and other vendors to drum up business. Also I finished a birthday cake today for a client- Yellow cake with Vanilla Buttecream Frosting with Strawberry and Banana Filling. I come to realize that I don't like doing fruit fillings because they can make the cake uneven.

On a brighter note... I have signed up for more decorating classes to get even better!
