Party Spotlight: Fall Wedding Shoot by Cupcake with Character

Hey Ya'll!

I'm back with another party spotlight today! This spotlight is on Shauna Krantz who is the owner of Cupcake with Character. Cupcake with Character is based out of Rocklin, California but her business is almost exclusively online based so anyone, any where can access her event services. Shauna specializes in printable and professional printed products via her website as well as a specialization in social media and promotion. She helps others grow their brand through various methods. This woman is multi-talented to say the least. Did I mention she is also a mother of 3 with a K-6 MS Teaching Credential and a MA in Educational Technology! Smart, savvy and uber friendly is how I describe Shauna:) She is also on Facebook, you can find her here.

I had the pleasure of working with her on a fall wedding shoot a couple of months back. The shoot was picked up by Hostess with the Mostess! Which we were all very excited about:) You can find more information about that here. I have worked with Shauna on a number of different parties and she is an absolute pleasure to work with.

Halloween Photo Shoot with CapesNCrowns

Hi Ya'll!

Sooooo I know it has been the longest and I mean the longest time since I have blogged! Life gets in the way and so does work and cakes. I have been collaborating on a lot of parties lately for photo shoots so that has filled up a lot of my time I would normally do things like this blog. So I wanted to take the time while I had some down time to blog about one of the photo shoots I participated in. You will see my toppers on the 3rd to last page from the bottom of the blog:)

Lauren from Capes and Crowns who is located in Alabama has a hand for the dramatic in a tasteful, creative way with her parties that she styles. She is quickly becoming a household name in the party styling sphere and to her credit she is one of the sweetest people that I know:) She has become so popular in a short span that Pottery Barn and yes I SAID Pottery Barn has brought her on board to use their products in her styled shoots. I happened to be one the lucky collaborators who participated in her Holy Monster'mony Styled Shoot that is now gracing the front cover of Party Style Magazine! I know Lauren is excited over all of the exposure the shoot has gotten and she deserves it because it is absolutely stunning.

Since Halloween is done every year it takes some serious talent to figure out a new twist on this holiday. Lauren has that in spades:) So without further ado here are some of the pictures from the photo shoot. If you would like to see all of the pictures please head over to Lauren's blog  and please feel free to leave a comment. Oh and that cute little Frankenstein is her son:)

Wedding Madness Week!

Hello,
I have had quite a week this week! I am still recovering from Saturday. WHEW!!!!! Somehow I managed to book 3 weddings on one day! I know I think I might have lost my mind for a second. After I recovered from the initial shock of it..I had to really sit down and think about to schedule this day out. Not to mention I had an additional 5 cake orders for Saturday and 1 cupcake order for the following Sunday! So I got to work..put on "my girl panties" as Caroline from Real Housewives of NJ would say and made it work! All of the cakes were delivered on time and I am quite proud of the way the dessert buffet for wedding number 3 turned out:) I learned many things from this weekend that I will most definitely be double checking and reinforcing the only 2 wedding cakes per day rule and that having extra people on hand is a HUGE plus. I would have never been able to pull this off if it wasn't for my 2 interns, my assistant and my dear hubby. Being a superwoman does have limits and cake deliveries is one of them. You physically can't be in 2 places at once, learn to lean on those around you when you need to and thank them for their help!

Vintage Inspired Dessert Buffet: 2 tier cake in Neapolitan flavor, chocolate dipped strawberries, cake pops, mini cupcakes and dessert shooters (dark choc. raspberry, grasshopper, smore and key lime pie). Delivered to Regent's Glen in York, PA.
 Close up of Wedding Cake

White & Blue Wedding Cake- 4 different flavors delivered to Heritage Hills in York, PA.

Rock Em, Sock Em Wedding Cupcake Tower- Lots of different cupcake flavors. The cutting cake is Gluten-free White Chocolate with fondant made toppers made to look like the Rock Em Sock Em robots in the background.
Star Wars Groom's Cake- Orange Creamsicle cake flavor.
Black & White Coach Purse Cake- Vanilla cake with Strawberries/Cream filling.

Over the Hill Birthday Cake- Top tier is vanilla and bottom tier is chocolate.
Over the Hill Cupcakes- Chocolate cupcakes with Peanut Butter Buttercream.

Gluten-free Birthday Cake- Chocolate cake with Milk free Vanilla Buttercream. A lot of clients that are gluten free have diary/milk allergies so this buttercream was made with flax milk instead of regular milk.
Also if you haven't checked out my new Etsy store please do. I will be adding some angry birds toppers tomorrow. I will be adding more toppers over the next couple of weeks. My website will also be getting an overhaul thanks to my web designer, Sharvon of SP Photos! Please go check out her site.  She does website work on the side and is very reasonable so if you are looking for a new web designer, she is your gal!

Until next time...
Peace & Blessings

Weddings & Airplanes!

Hello once again,

So I have been able to blog more lately because I am learning to do my prep work for cakes earlier in the week so by the time I have to start baking cakes or cupcakes I have everything else prepared. It really helped me out last week with all of the orders I had and it also helped out a bit this week. For the past two weeks it has been really really busy for me and I love it! It lets me know that the local community is starting to find out about me :) So on to this week. First up was a cake I had to make for a couple that I did their wedding cake back in July. Due to the heat and having their wedding outdoors (which I warned them about) I had some issues with the bottom tier by the time I go to the venue and then the cake sat outdoors in the heat. Needless to say the fondant slid a little. I explained to her what happened and why the fondant slid. So because I am who I am and want all of my customers happy and coming back, I told her that I would do a smaller cake for at her choosing for free. So this is the cake, it was her husband who turned 25.

Butter cake with Vanilla Bean Buttercream Filling. The 2 & 5 were separate cakes that I attached to the square cake.

The next cake was ordered from a repeat customer of mine. She is so easy to work with and gives me free reign as far as design is concern (which I love).
Strawberry Theme Birthday Cake- Strawberry cake with Strawberry Buttercream Filling. I made the strawberries on top from red fondant. The vines are dark chocolate with white dogwood flowers. This was my first time making fondant figures so I am really pleased with the way the strawberries came out.

The next couple of pictures are from the order a customer picked up today for her sister's wedding. The wedding will be held in Maryland tomorrow. She preferred to take the cake and things down rather than have me deliver. The wedding's theme was red, blue and airplanes. This order was good size too one smaller cake (for the wedding party), sugar cookie favors and cupcakes for the guest. I love doing these kinds of orders because I am doing multiple things for one event and it shows off my skills.
Airplane Wedding Cake- Triple Chocolate Fudge cake with Chocolate Ganache and Chocolate Buttercream fillings. The cake is decorated with blue and white compass roses on the sides. On top sits a little airplane that the couple wanted. A very talented fellow cake decorator did the plane for me since I am not that good with fondant figures yet. I had to put it together and think I did a pretty good job:)
Compass Rose Cupcakes- Matching cupcakes to the airplane wedding cake. Cupcakes were carrot, vanilla and chocolate. Topped with blue and white compass rose.
Airplane Sugar Cookies- Vanilla sugar cookies decorated with red and blue royal icing. The cookies have the couples name and the wedding date on them. I made the favor tags as well.

Cupcake Tower- I made this square tower to go put the cake and cupcakes on.

I really wished that I could have set this up but I will have to wait for pictures so see how she set it up. I will be posting more pictures tomorrow after I deliver and set up a cupcake tower for another wedding. I also made some delicious cakes for my church's annual picnic for the baking contest. I also have a birthday cake to deliver as well. But I have GREAT news for everyone. Kima's Konfections is moving! Yes we have have been approved for a house in the city of York (we currently live in the township). It is up the street from a park on a quiet one way street. But the best thing to me is it has sooo much room! I will be able to have a dedicated room just for the business! Which means I can take on more customers! I am so excited and more updates will be coming soon with pictures. Move in date is set for sometime in October!

Peace & Blessings

First Wedding Order Done!

Last weekend I had my first wedding to cater and it came out beautifully (with the help of the hubby)! The couple I had the pleasure of catering a dessert table for Jessica & Steven wanted a yellow and green nature themed table along with wedding cake. The cake was 3 tiers carrot cake with cream cheese frosting. The cake was covered in green fondant with yellow cherry blossoms. They wanted simple yet elegant and I think I achieved that look.
The dessert buffet was for 200 guests so I made a combination of brownies, cupcakes, cookie truffles and cake pops. The brownies were plain chocolate with a hint of vanilla and cinnamon which is my signature brownie. The cupcakes were cinnamon bun with cinnamon cream cheese filling and vanilla buttercream, lemon with lemon-lime buttercream, strawberry with lemon-lime buttercream, carrot with vanilla bean cream cheese buttercream, red velvet with vanilla bean cream cheese buttercream and chocolate chip with chocolate buttercream. The cookie truffles were chocolate oreo and golden oreo truffles. And the cake pops were strawberry, banana/chocolate, and white chocolate. Yummy!!!
I will be blogging again on Saturday after the delivery of yet another wedding cake! Vanilla and raspberry cherry blossom... Until then peace and blessings!

It's the Season!

Wedding season is officially here! As a baker this is the season that I love because not only am I contacted for regular cakes ( like birthday cakes) but wedding cakes as well. Tomorrow I have not one wedding cake tasting but two! So if they both go well.. that makes wedding four and five so far! God is definitely good to me! There is no other way I can explain it but its all God, how else can my business take off so fast after I decide that I really want to do this full time since I am home with Jayden. And speaking of the little man, he is getting so big so fast.I can't believe that is he almost 5 months already. It still feels like yesterday some days that I just had him. He is really starting to show his personality now and moving around more, though he still hasn't mastered to roll over yet. He tries to talk all the time and makes lots of noise which is so different because other than crying for the first almost three months he really didn't try to talk or make noise. Getting him to sleep on his own is still a challenge but we are making strides. He will now sleep by himself during naps, but at night he still wants to snuggle up under mommy. And I am such a sucker for my child that I let him. I know once he hits six months I am really going to have to force the issue with him sleeping by himself and being around other people because the last thing I want is for him to develop separation anxiety. It is already a problem some days now when I leave, my husband tells me that he cries for a little bit and gets upset. So we are going to have to think about putting him in daycare even if its only one day a week so he can be around other babies and people.
I am constantly trying to figure out new ways to market my business to its fullest potential to bring in more customers and now I have posted a discount on Google and will be putting it on Facebook for any couple that books a wedding with me between now and April 20th I will be giving a 10% discount on their wedding order and that includes cupcakes and dessert buffets as well as edible favors. This up coming week is going to be interesting because I have a cake tasting on Monday for a birthday cake to be delivered on Saturday in a camouflage theme. So I have come up with this really cute idea. The cake is going to be 3 tiers covered in camouflage fondant. I also will be making chocolate animal figures to place around the cake. I also purchased a hunter and a miniature tent to go on the cake as well. I think once I get it done it will be so cute. The client ordered it for her husband who is an avid hunter so the theme should be perfect. I also have a 1st birthday cake to do next week as well. This is going to be interesting because I am mixing pink with green due to the customer's request to have shamrocks on the cake for St. Patrick's Day. Both of these cakes are due on the same day which my dedicated hubby will have to deliver for me since I will be in New Jersey for my friend's bridal shower and my brothers' girlfriend's baby shower (which I decided to host not really realizing how busy I was going to be). I am also taking Jayden with me and doing some dessert catering so this going to be a jam packed week and weekend. Then I have to get ready when I come back for another tasting on the 27th for a big order. I will tell you more about that next week but it will be exciting because I will using some of my event planning skills.
On the event planning front, I know I announced some entries back that I have decided to add on event planning to my business which I am still going to do just not as soon as I would like to. I think I want to start with some of the smaller aspects of event planning first to get my feet wet and take the course to become certified in event planning before I start doing it full time along with baking. So I will be offering (which is already up on my site) specific event planning services for now like custom place cards and invitations. Also linen coordination and custom centerpieces, the more creative hands on side of the business. I think I will do those kinds of things for the rest of the year and then next year start with smaller events like bridal showers and baby showers and work my way up from there. Because doing a full scale wedding takes a lot of time and effort to make sure it goes off with out any issues plus Jayden will be older and not as needy as he is right now. I have also added some things to the konfection side of the business which just makes sense to me. I have added edible favors which are very popular right now and why not since I do dessert buffets now. The couple I met with last weekend is interested in cake pops as edible favors. I am going to see if the couple coming in tomorrow are interested to. I also will be offering mini cakes, which are cakes but just smaller (4 inch rounds) which are perfect for someone wanting to order a couple of personalized cakes for someone or for an event and they will go perfectly on the dessert buffet menu. They would also look so cute at a wedding, having a traditional wedding cake and then have some smaller cakes or they could even be used as centerpieces. I think by the end of the year, I will have a better handle on my business as far as what works and what doesn't and then I can move forward to build it up and hopefully God willing that  I will have an actual storefront in a couple of years. That is the ultimate goal for me. To be able to have my own bakery storefront that provides a one stop shop for couple looking to plan their weddings and for other looking to have someone not only dessert cater their event but to plan it as well. I think that is an untapped market waiting for someone to fill it and hopefully I am that person. :) So for now Good Night and God Bless.

Oh How I Love Cake Pops!

Before I talk about my love for cake pops, I made a small personal cake for my husbands' friend's birthday. She likes the color blue so I covered her cake in blue fondant with purple so it looked like a swirl pattern. I also added squares on a diagonal with some yellow accent on top of the cake. I liked the way it came out though I would love for it to have been a two or three tier. I will post the pic in a couple of days after his friend gets her cake. On a side note, I got a phone call from a couple looking for a wedding cake today:) but the thing is that they asked me do I do wedding cakes when there is a section dedicated to wedding cakes on my site. The reason being is that there are no wedding cakes on my site. After he said it, I realized that I might not be getting all the phone calls that I could be getting due to the small amount of pictures on my site and the fact that there are no wedding cake pictures on there. So the cake dummies that I was going to use for the bridal show I will be using next week to take some wedding cake pictures so my web designer can put them on my site. I love doing weddings and I want to get as much business as possible. That phone call was a reminder of how much work that I still need to do to my site and my business.

On to my love of cake pops! I would say cake pops have become very fashionable in the world for the past two years. They are showing up everywhere from the average party to grand weddings. So what is so special about a cake pop? I think its because you can have your cake with out the mess of cutting a cake and using a fork to eat with. Cake pops are on a stick so all you do is just bite and enjoy the yummy goodness :) They can be decorated in a variety of ways and the chocolate coating just adds the special touch to make them irresistible. To make them even fancier, you can take them off the stick and now you have cake balls or cake truffles if you want to get really fancy. And you can make them in many different flavor combinations. So in honor of the cake pop, I will be running a special for the next couple of weeks of cake pops! Flavors coming later on today:)
